Research on other pop girl bands

As well as looking at music videos that All Saints have produced I have also looked at 2 other pop girl groups videos: Spice girls and Atomic kittens. As these have both been successful bands I can look and analyse the conventions they use in their videos which helped make it successful and put some of these ideas into my own music video.
The first video i have looked at is Spice Girls, 2 become 1:

One of the first things i noticed in the video is that the scene is set as to where the music video is filmed. I like the idea of this because it will let fans know where they were and they will be able to recognise places in the video if they were to ever visit it. The first 3 members of the band all sing separately therefore making them the main focus, as well as that the background is moving really quickly by doing this it makes the singers the main attraction to the shot and so works well.
Spice girls are known for all having their own characteristics and this is reflected in what they wear in this music video. Although they are all different it works well and suits the band because it is likely fans will have their favourite from the band and so can dress and look like them if they wanted to as they it can clearly be seen what they are wearing. Although All Saints haven’t got the same different types of characteristics and so it may not work as well we could all wear different outfits in our music video to portray that we are all different.
The video tells a story and although there are other people featuring in the video the spice girls are the main feature, they have done this buy having many shots, close ups shots and medium shots flicking throughout the video. This is also something that I noticed with All Saints videos and so will mean that I am going to need a lot of close up shops to follow the conventions of a pop girl group music video. As well as individual shots in the music video there are also some shots of all the girls together, this I feel was a good thing because the girls are all wearing different things and have different characteristics but are still part of the same band and so by having shots with them all together this will show that although they are all different they are still together.
The second pop girl group music video i have looked at is Atomic Kittens, Whole Again:

The first shot in this music video which in total lasts for 50 seconds is close ups and zooming in and out of one of the band members, by already establishing who is in the band and having close ups this is something that I may need to also in my music video. It is clear that close ups are going to be essential in order to be able to follow the conventions of a successful pop girl group music video. After the 30 seconds there is then a focus on all 3 of the band members, again this shot is quite close.
The girls are wearing similar colour clothes in this music video, something in which I noticed in All Saints music videos too. As different girl groups are doing this I will need to consider what I am going to wear and what the other members are going to wear to ensure that we do look part of a band. As well as wearing the same clothes the girls are also doing simple dance moves in time with one another, this again is something I noticed in All Saints music video and so is also going to be something I will need to consider when planning the shots for my music video.
Throughout the video there is a focus on one of the girls at any one time and during the chorus the girls are all together. This I feel works well as all members are seen as being important and fans would be able to focus on one band member at time instead of all of them. This convention is also something I noticed in both All Saints and Spice girls music video and so it will need to be something I think about when planning for my music video as I want it to be as much like a pop video as possible.
